Description

Documented Colt 1911 .45 ACP that was the personal property of Major General Julian S. Hatcher, the creator of the “Hatcher Hole” found on 1903 rifles. He authored several books, which are included. They are: Book of The Garand; Hatcher’s Notebook; Three Textbooks: Pistols and Revolvers; Firearms Investigation, Identification, Evidence; and United States Navy Small Arms Firing Regulations and Instructions 1931 showing his pistol dry-firing technique. His dry fire technique was also featured in the May 1960 NRA magazine “American Rifleman” when Maj. Gen. Hatcher (Ret.) was a contributor to the magazine. An original copy of this magazine is also included.

The pistol is well used, but not abused and appears original, with around 50% finish remaining. The barrel is HP marked. The wear is commensurate with its age.

Documentation includes a letter from the selling FFL, documenting its provenance, as well as a copy of Hatcher’s personal firearms collection. Documentation also includes a letter from Colt showing the gun was shipped to Rock Island Arsenal on November 11, 1913, as part of a shipment of 1,000 guns.

Don’t miss the opportunity to own a well documented firearm that belonged to a decorated military officer, who not only served with distinction in two branches (Navy and Army) but contributed meaningfully to the functionality and knowledge of firearms.

Guns like this come along once in a lifetime.
