About us

I am Barry Bookman, owner and founder of Paramount Firearms LLC. Thank you for visiting my site! I started my lifelong appreciation of firearms when I was a kid and my dad gave me a Marlin bolt action .22 rifle.  Since then, as my work schedule would allow over the decades I have grown my knowledge, my skills and my collection, which I considered an investment. My wife pointed out that an investment is only an investment if one is willing to sell it.  She was right, so we separated our family guns from guns I was willing to sell. We found I had so many guns I was willing to sell that it warranted me getting an FFL and starting a business. Now in a position to make firearms my full time avocation, and with my wife’s support and encouragement, we founded Paramount Firearms LLC as a family business.

In addition to buying and selling firearms, edged weapons and accessories, I’m also a firearms instructor. I enjoy working with small groups, team-teaching and have offered women-only classes.  I take my responsibility as an instructor seriously and as such, I attend continuing education courses for instructors. Staying informed and keeping my skills sharp make me a better teacher and better advocate for and representative of the shooting sports.

I am happy to offer general advice on firearms selection and valuations and conditions. My advice is free and worth exactly what you pay for it!

Most shops don’t sell gun safes; they sell RSCs, residential security containers, There will be a sticker inside the “safe” indicating it is an RSC. The Underwriters Laboratory (UL) RSC certification requires that it “block access for 5 minutes using a pry bar less than 18” long and a hammer weighing less than 3 pounds.” An RSC is not the same as a real safe. This is a great video from Rogue Safe Company on why you should have a real safe.
